Hats

This year I have found myself mildly infatuated with hats and have been wearing them more often than not. I dig them not only for their cool-ness and ability to transform an outfit, but also for the warmth factor! As soon as fall struck this year I pulled out my woolen crocheted beanie for instance and pitter pattered around town in it. My first purchase was chartreuse and I loved that one so much that I have now grown my collection to include 2 black ones (different styles) and one cream. How to wear one of these babies? I think hair down is a must. If you have swept to the side long bangs wear the beanie far enough back that you are exposing your bangs but making sure your ears are covered. No bangs? Wear the hat down on your forehead just hovering above your eyebrows and again make sure your ears are covered (this helps the hat lay just right). What to wear with one? I love wide leg jeans and a slouchy knit top OR mix it up a bit and try it with a full short skirt, turtleneck, opaque tights, and to-the-knee boots! I also like this particular style paired with something super dressy as it tends to down play formality. Remember its always good to mix something glitzy with an opposite to create an interesting combination.

Cloches are big right now too! What’s that you ask? Its a more rounded shape with a brim goes straight down. These vintage-y looking numbers are the perfect accompaniments with an adorable traditional pea coat or other fitted 3/4 length coat. I also love these hats paired with a basic pair of jeans, cute ruffled blouse, and cardigan sweater. You’ll just love how the hat brings that basic ensemble to a new level!

Another cool retro look is the floppy hat circa 1970. This larger than life hat isn’t for the faint of heart nor the super petite or short sect. This fabulous fashion piece would be terrific on a taller women who enjoys wearing tailored pieces. The best way to style this hat would be with wide-legged high waisted dress pants in a pretty neutral (think gray) and a fitted ribbed knit turtleneck in the same shade with a wide belt at the waist… OH, and don’t forget the platform pumps and oversized shades to really up the ante!

Jen Gar seems a little salty about straw cowboy hats… Curious about your thoughts on “trucker” hats Jen Gar… Love ‘em or hate ‘em???

I have to agree with Christina and Toph – I dig the cowboy accessory poolside (sans the party beads) – they are cute and keep the rays away.

Jane… Trucker hats = posers. They are everyone trying to look “hip”, don’t forget to wear it slightly askew with a dragon print t-shirt & pre-torn jeans!!
