Red Carpet Watch: Grammy’s

I was quite hesitant to comment on the Grammy garb simply because I am not familiar with many of the artists.  That being said, I had to do a little research in order to find out WHO exactly rocked out the greatest frocks and who stepped out in screwed-up style.

While I cringe every time I hear Katy Perry’s hit song from 2008 I was enamored by the powdery pink glam gown she donned last evening.  I just can’t take my eyes off the beautiful chiffon pleats and folds – that almost looked braided, fitted bodice, and flowy mermaid train… Perry also hit some high notes by selecting a color that perfectly enhanced her sun-kissed skin and finished off the uber-elegant look with a hefty diamond ring and bangles.

While I give the artist to the right props for stepping out while VERY pregnant, her choice of donning a BUSY (and not attractive) pattern finished with bright blue ankle kicks and canary yellow bra was a poor selection.  We’ve seen pregnant stars on the red carpet in the past – M.I.A should have learned from their style success and chosen a dark all-one-hue number and simple jewelry…. And, while I realize sometimes it’s hard to don stilettos when ready to pop – a little height would have helped too.

LaToya Luckett featured left combined lots of different colors and it works wonderfully.  Her  fuchsia pseudo-tulip shaped frock is nothing short of adorable.  I love the jeweled neckline and how she went out on a limb and punctuated her long stems with serene aqua-blue suede pumps that complimented the diamante crew neck… I can’t forget to discuss Luckett’s reptilian rainbow printed clutch. I think it works, however for an upscale event such as this I might have forgone a quirky accessory in exchange for a hard metallic clutch.  You can tell that this gal has fun with fashion!

Jennifer Hudson took a risk with her highly sculpted black, white, and gunmetal abbreviated dress.  I thought that she looked terrific and that head to toe she got it ”just” right  – hair and make-up:  Spot on.  Accessories:  Perfect. As they didn’t take your eyes away from the structured shape she donned.  Although not shown here, Hudson also skipped the basic black/neutral shoe and choose a dark not-quite-navy suede stiletto.  The perfect end to a lovely look.

While I LOVE the sweet sounds of Coldplay I thought their coordinated costumes/ensembles looked ridiculous .  As I have researched the style sirens versus stinkers this morning both online and on TV, I heard a funny analogy for this British group’s get-up.  One of my favorite celeb gossip guys/comedians/star on Sex And The City, Mario Cantone likened this group to the creepy kiddie singers “The Wiggles”  … Take a look and see for yourself.  I think he hit it dead on! Maybe next time Coldplay can get inspired by something a little less juvenile.

Coldplay looked horrible…..at least from the picture, because I didnt watch.

And I totally agree on cringing when that Katy Perry song comes on. Awful.
