I agree that pleats aren't meant for the masses, however someone with a little tum would benefit from some high waist pants with zero pleating for a little subtle cinching (a look that is quite current)... The last thing a lady with an ample tummy and wide hips should wear are low waist trousers or jeans. The low-slung looks will accentuate the wide parts and create an unpleasant "muffin" top.
